About two hours north of the capital city of Nairobi, you will find the small town of Njabini. As with most parts of Kenya, the opportunities for jobs in this area are scarce, especially for women. One woman has set out to help where she can. Grace Livingstone has a vision to see the women in her area empowered financially in order to support their families. She is already busy as a teacher and the wife of a pastor. Still, Grace is buying wool from the local farmers and working with women from the area to weave it into small rugs.

It's amazing to watch the process (photos left). One lady combs the wool…

one lady spins it into thread…

and another lady weaves it into a rug…

The weaver is extremely talented in how she makes the design on the rug. They have just started working with dyes but, for the most part, the contract is made simply by using black sheep's wool against white sheep's wool. They can be used as small rugs or as beautiful wall hangings. Grace calls them prayer mats, a great reminder to us all to get on our knees more often.

The basis for her ministry is Psalm 41:1-2
"Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in times of trouble. The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes."
