Handmade ceramic jewelry from Karen, Kenya Kazuri is the Kiswahili word meaning "small and beautiful". Every bead used to make these necklaces is shaped by hand, without the aid of molds or forms, by one of the local women employed by Kazuri. The beads are then polished and kiln-fired, painted, and fired again before being strung. Because all Kazuri jewelry is handmade, slight variations in color and shape are inevitable. Indeed, in an age of mass production, this is what makes Kazuri particularly appealing. Learn more about the women who make Kazuri Beads. The CHARLESTON style comes in 18" length.
