Kisii Natural Beaded Boxes These boxes are simple, yet beautiful. Since the soapstone is not painted, the artists pick out the prettiest natural soapstone, either white or with a slight bit of marbling. They carve a design in the box and place beads there to finish the simple design. It can be used to contain a number of things, or just be a pretty piece on your desk or table! It’s a stone comprised of talc, quartz and various impure minerals compressed over millions of years in the earth. Over the centuries the Kisii people used soapstone to make pots and other practical tools. Today, our skilled artists paint and carve the stone into beautiful, decorative pieces. Click here to learn more about the artists, Richard and Jemimah and their team, and how these beautiful pieces are made. Every Gifts on a Mission product comes packaged with a card that tells the story of the artists and information on what makes the product special.
